Keeping a hybrid ferry in Scotland afloat.

The Challenge

When a ferry terminal in Argyll needed a way to charge the battery in a Hybrid ferry, we were asked to provide a solution.

The boat needed to be powered up every night in order for it to sail during the day, but being located near houses, it was vital that the generator wouldn’t disturb the neighbours.

The Solution

Because the ferry needed to be recharged every night for up to a year without disturbing nearby residents, we needed to make sure that the generator we supplied was rock solid, quiet, and reliable. We supplied a 150kVA Atlas Copco generator which not only meets European and International legislation, but exceeds it.

Our customer also needed to make sure that the generator wasn’t placed too close to the harbour, so we provided 120 metres of waterproof load cable to allow the vessel to be safely charged from a distance.

“We initially contacted five generator suppliers, and of those that came back to us, Generator Power had the shortest response time and were the most competitively priced.

The quotation we received for the hire was clear and easy to understand, and Helen (Sales Engineer) has been very helpful throughout the process. I have continued to be impressed by the customer service we have received.”
